String Inverters for Optimizing Commercial Rooftop Solar Installations

With cutting-edge innovations driving the solar space, technologically advanced string inverters are fast gaining popularity among solar developers.
Although inverters account for 5% of the total project cost, they become key contributors while factoring in project performance, stability, and the levelized cost of energy. So, quality and technology play a substantial role.
In the past two years, string inverters have been steadily catching up with the conventional central inverters, which have until now been the go-to solution for solar projects.
Even though string inverters are slowly making their way in India, the trend in recent years shows that they are being received well by stakeholders. String inverters are fast capturing the solar installations market – in both utility-scale and rooftop – making up 49% of the inverter market in India in 2020.
According to Mercom’s recently released report India Solar Market Leaderboard 2021, in the string inverter category, Huawei, Sungrow, Growatt, Goodwe, and Solis were the top suppliers to India.
With rooftop solar also gaining momentum in the solar installation segment, developers and consumers are turning to string inverters for a variety of reasons.
Rooftop solar installations are cost-sensitive and demand the best technologies to ensure they produce the maximum output. Remote monitoring and in-built safety features are also integral for rooftop solar systems, especially during the pandemic.
The small and compact size of string inverters ensure easy transport. In case of failure, replacing a string inverter is both easier and inexpensive. Since string inverters are connected to a series of solar modules and not the entire system, any failure or shading has a minimum effect on the performance of the entire system.
On May 31, 2021, Mercom will host a webinar on ‘String Inverters: The Smart Solution for Rooftop Solar Systems’.

The panel includes Sudhir Pathak, Head of Design & Engineering, Hero Future Energies; Niranjan N Naik, Consultant, Bosch Energy and Building Solutions; Shantanu Sirsath, Technical Head India, Growatt, and Rakesh B.P., Technical Sales Manager, Solis.
Priya Sanjay, Managing Director, Mercom India, will moderate the session.
The webinar will have experts shed light on the topic and answer questions from the attendees.
The focus of the webinar will be on the disruptive and smart technologies in the new-age inverters that are helping optimize rooftop solar systems.
Rooftop installers will also share their experiences and technology expectations integrated with cost-effective systems to drive growth in the segment.
