Carnegie signs grid connection for Perth wave energy project

Wave energy developer, Carnegie Wave Energy Limited, has signed key agreements with the Australian Department of Defence.
They cover grid connection and power purchase agreements for the Perth Wave Energy Project on Garden Island, the base of HMAS Stirling, Australia's largest naval facility.

The wave power project – which uses Carnegie's CETO technology – will be connected to the local HMAS Stirling electrical infrastructure. Under the power purchase agreement, the Defence department will purchase all the electricity generated by the wave plant for used at the HMAS Stirling base.

The CETO system consists of an array of submerged CETO units, subsea pipelines, and an onshore power generation facility located on Garden Island. Carnegie is now focusing on progressing detailed design of the project with construction and first power to the grid planned by end 2013.
