PTI reported that state run Neyveli Lignite Corporation plans to add an additional 75 MW through wind and solar energy which would be allocated to Tamil Nadu that is facing acute power shortage. NLC aims to achieve this during the financial year 2012-13.
Mr AR Ansari CMD of NLC C said that the power allocation to states was done based on the guidelines issued by the Central Electricity Authority, Ministry of Power. He had said commercial generation of power from the second thermal unit would begin by June this year.
The company said it had surpassed the production target during the period 2011-12.
The total lignite production was 24.5912 million tonne during April 2011 March 2012 as against the target of 23.950 million tonne, up by 6.25%.
The power exports during 2011-12 also touched 15,810.27 million units as against the target of 15,276 million units.
NLC said that total power generation from all thermal stations put together at 18,788.59 Million Units and Thermal Power Station II at 11,087.36 MU achieved during the year are the highest for any year since inception.
