EDP Renewables developing 54-MW New York community solar project

EDP Renewables‘ distributed generation branch is structuring its 13th community solar project in New York with a planned capacity of 54 MW.

EDPR’s community solar projects provide homeowners, renters and corporate entities and their employees access to the renewable energy source regardless of the physical attributes or ownership status of their home or business. The renewables developer has been working with clients in the commercial and industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and municipal sectors.

“Expanding grid market opportunities and reducing hurdles for customers to access cost-effective solar has been part of our mission since day one,” said Candice Michalowicz, COO of EDP Renewables North America Distributed Generation.

EDPR DG NA currently owns 72 MWdc of community solar assets either operating, under construction, or in the development phase across the Northeast and Midwest. There is an additional near-term pipeline of 42 MWdc expected to be operational within the next 12 months. cess,” said Chris Bines, Co-Owner, Climbing Bines Hop Farm & Brewery.

“Our community solar projects are dedicated to providing tangible benefits to local communities, including workforce development and providing vocational and internship training to the future clean energy workforce of New York State,” said Adam Woda, community solar senior associate, EDPR NA DG. “It’s not enough to construct a project; we need to be dedicated to the long-term health and operation of the project. This means helping to develop a supply chain of service providers which will enable projects to remain operational for decades and provide New York State with a pipeline of good-paying jobs moving forward.”
