E.ON gets approval for 230MW wind farm offshore UK

E.ON has received approval from the UK Department for Energy and Climate and Change (DECC) to construct the 230MW Humber Gateway offshore wind farm.

The wind farm off the Holderness coast in the East Riding of Yorkshire will generate enough electricity to power approximately 150,000 homes.

A new substation near Salt End, east of Hull, will connect the power project to the national grid via 30km of underground cable.

Once operational, the wind farm, which would have up to 77 turbines, will be E.ON's fifth offshore wind energy facility in the UK.

Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Chris Huhne said that offshore wind not only provides clean, green, secure energy, the investment that comes with it is great for the UK economy too.

"A new wind farm off the Humberside coast will be a further jobs and investment boost for the region, hot on the heels of Siemens' announcement of plans to develop the Port of Hull," Huhne said.
