DPRK blasts U.S. for developing new nuclear weapons

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday lashed out at the United States for developing a new type of nuclear warheads and also urged Washington to change its double standards on nuclear issues.

The DPRK's remarks came after the U.S. State Los Alamos Nuclear Institute has started the full-scale production of a new type of nuclear warheads recently.

"What the U.S. is now doing is nothing but an application of serious double standards to the field of nuclear activity and the height of its arrogance," said the Rodong Sinmun, the leading official newspaper.

"This being a hard reality, the U.S. is crying out for the DPRK' s dismantlement of nuclear substance, while keeping mum about the danger of its criminal nuclear program," the newspaper said.

The DPRK urged the United States to stop the development of a new type of warheads immediately.

Under an agreement reached at the Feb. 13 six-party talks involving China, the DPRK, the United States, Russia, South Korea and Japan, the DPRK must declare all its nuclear programs and disable all its existing nuclear facilities, including graphite-moderated reactors and its post-treatment plant.

And the other relevant parties must provide a total of 1 million tons of heavy fuel oil or equivalent aid, with the initial shipment of 50,000 tons.

On July 14, the DPRK shut down its main Yongbyon nuclear reactor as promised.
