Wind energy farm planned for Pennsylvania

Duke Energy Renewables, a unit of Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK), will build a 69 MW wind farm in Pennsylvania and sell all of the generated electricity to Delaware Municipal Electric Corp. (DEMEC) under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Duke Energy Renewables will build, own and operate the Laurel Hill Windpower Project that will use 30 Siemens (NYSE: SI) wind turbines capable of generating 2.3 MW each.

Laurel Hill is Duke's second wind farm in Pennsylvania. The first, the 70 MW North Allegheny Windpower Project, was acquired from Gamesa Energy USA in May 2009.

Duke Energy Renewables began building the Laurel Hill project in August. It is slated to enter commercial service by September 2012.
