WAPDA generated 31.45b units in 2010-11

Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) generated 31.45 billion units of hydropower during fiscal year 2010-11, registering an increase of 3.84 billion units as compared to fiscal 2009-10 due to efficient operation and management of power stations and availability of more water in reservoirs.

This additional contribution of low-cost hydropower saved about Rs41.64 billion, which otherwise would have been spent on generating equivalent quantity of electricity from thermal resources, a Wapda press release said on Monday.

Tarbela, the largest hydropower station in the country, generated 15.83 billion unit Published by HT Syndication with permission from South Asian Media Network.
