Vestas wins 250 MW Colorado turbine order

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has won an order from Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES) for turbines with capacity of 250 megawatts for a project in the U.S. state of Colorado, Vestas said on Wednesday.

Vestas did not disclose the value of the order for 139 of its V90-1.8 MW turbines. Canadian pipeline company Enbridge Inc said on Tuesday that it would invest $500 million in the Colorado wind project.

"Once completed, Cedar Point Wind will be the second-largest wind project in Colorado," Vestas Wind Systems A/S said in a statement, adding that the commercial start-up of the development in Lincoln and Elbert counties is due in 2011.

The order does not affect Vestas' outlook for 2010, the company said.

Vestas recently opened three manufacturing plants in Colorado to supply turbines to North American customers — a blades factory in Windsor, a nacelles assembly unit in Brighton, and a towers manufacturing facility in Pueblo. A second blades factory is planned for 2011 in Brighton, it said.
