South Korea's first tidal-power plant began full operations on Aug. 29 after a trial on Aug. 3, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said in an e-mailed statement.
The 254-megawatt plant off the western coast near Ansan city will help South Korea reduce 94.2 billion won ($88 million) of crude oil imports a year, and greenhouse gas emission by 315,000 metric tons, the ministry said.
