National solar company SolarCity held a grand-opening celebration Thursday at its second Colorado location, in Parker.
The company provides custom solar system design, installation, monitoring and financing, in addition to home energy audits. SolarCity moved into the new 12,500-square-foot space on Parkerhouse Road on March 1, and employs 21 workers there.
The company's other Colorado location is at Interstate 25 and U.S. 36 north of Denver. Between the two offices, SolarCity has 66 workers in the state.
SolarCity, headquartered in San Mateo, Calif., has 500 projects completed or underway in Colorado.
The Parker office has warehouse facilities to store solar panels, a fleet of trucks as part of field operations, and space to house a sales team and conduct workshops and safety training.
Regional director Eric Wittenberg said the company chose the Parker location to more easily serve customers in the south metro area and as far south as Colorado Springs.
"We chose Parker because it has great access," Wittenberg said.
Customers can lease custom solar power systems for their homes with 20-year financing plans that cost $35 to $65 a month, he said.
"Colorado is such a wonderful market for solar," Wittenberg said. "I think people care about the environment and the vast majority of the public is concerned about energy costs."
