SoloPower, a California-based manufacturer of flexible thin-film solar cells and modules, received a $197 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy to support the construction of three facilities that will produce 400 MW of photovoltaic (PV) modules a year.
The company will use the money to expand an existing operation in San Jose, Calif. and construct and operate two new facilities in Portland, Ore. Improvements to the California plant have already begun and construction is expected to begin on the Oregon plant in September.
