The German manufacturer is showcasing the new product at the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) annual exhibition, being held November 1 to 3 in Montreal.
The MM100 is intended for regions with low wind speeds, REpower said – as is Gamesa's Class IIIA, also introduced at the CanWEA fair.
REpower's new turbine has a 100-metre rotor, which the company is pitching in particular to the US and Canada.
The MM100 uses LM 48.9 Evolution rotor blades jointly developed by Repower and LM Wind Power. The prototype is scheduled to be installed in 2011, with series production to start in mid-2012.
REpower launched two 3.XM onshore platforms at the European trade show EWEC in 2010.
