California's investor-owned utilities produced 15.4 percent of their power from renewable sources in 2009, up 2.4 percentage points from 2008, according to a report from the California Public Utility Commission released Tuesday.
Of the power purchased or produced by San Diego Gas & Electric Co., 10.4 percent came from renewable sources, up 4.4 percentage points from 2008. Southern California Edison served about 17 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, up 1.9 percentage points from 2008.
In the report, the PUC attributed the gain to the addition statewide of 1000 megawatts of new renewable power in 2009, though it also said consumers reduced the amount of power they used, allowing renewables to become a larger proportion of the whole.
