In Indiana, POET opened its twenty-seventh ethanol plant and fourth in Indiana, POET Biorefining – Cloverdale. POET purchased the 90 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant, which begins production next week, from Altra Biofuels in June 2010.
Since then, the company has been busy installing about $30 million in upgrades, including BPX, POET's patented fermentation process that uses enzymes instead of heat and POET's Total Water Recovery system that cuts wastewater discharge. The plant will consume 31 million bushels of corn, and produce 246,500 tons of Dakota Gold Brand dried distillers grains. The facility will directly employ 43 people, more than 90 percent of them drawn from the local community.
