ISLAMABAD, June 28 — National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced the date of public hearing for settlement of generation tariff for 49.5 MW wind power project in district Thatta of Sindh province, accepting the petition submitted by Three Gorges First Wind Farm Pakistan (Pvt) Limited.
According to sources in NEPRA, the authority declared the date of July 14, 2011 for public hearing against the petition filed by a Chinese firm working for alternative energy resources particularly in wind energy segment.
The authority asked applicant for determination of generation tariff for proposed sale of electric power to Central Power Purchasing (CPPA) within National Transmission & Despatch Company Limited (NTDC).
According to a document available with Daily Times, Three Gorges First Wind Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd had been seeking a levelised reference generation tariff of Rs 12.51 /KWh for tariff control period of 20 years from the commercial operation date.
The 49.5-MW wind energy power project located at Jhampir, district Thatta would fall under a cost of $134.748 million, out of which, $4.012 million allocated for project development, $83.800 million for off-shore and $26,180 million was allocated for on-shore cost while $4.856 million would be paid in state of interest during construction phase.
AEDB has declared the achievement of financial closing for 49.5 MW wind power project of M/s FFC Energy Ltd located at Jhampir, Distt. Thatta, Sindh. The announcement was made during MoU signing ceremony within the month of May 2011 on behalf of government. Now, with the Chinese company's financial close, the pathway has been set forth for the fast development of the sector, as now the entire background infrastructure like IA, EPA, Tariff, Grid Code is in place for the other wind power projects by Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources.
The ministry claimed that federal government is continuously in contact with Sindh government for their help in getting more land for wind project in Gharo-Ketibandar Wind Corridor. Speaking with Daily Times, Chief Executive Officer AEDB, Arif Alauddin said that a few years ago, the wind energy sector of Pakistan had little attraction to the investors and suppliers. However now seven (07) of the top ten (10) EPC contractors / manufacturers are ready to provide their services in Pakistan.
