Gazprom agrees to buy CERs from Chinese wind project

Russian energy company Gazprom's trading arm Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) has agreed to buy U.N.-backed carbon credits from China's Datang group, it said on Tuesday.

The credits, called certified emissions reductions (CERs), will be generated by a 26 megawatt wind power project in Zhangpu county in China's Fujian province.

The project is expected to generate carbon dioxide emissions reductions of around 125,623 tonnes by the end of 2012, GM&T said in a statement.

The project has been fully operational since December 2008 and was successfully registered under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism in February in 2010.
