Envirosense Hungary Ltd., in cooperation with the Hungarian Solar Panel Solar Collector Association, has started the creation of a national solar energy map. The service is available through www.napenergiaterkep.hu, and is constantly being expanded, reports Világgazdaság.

The solar map of Miskolc in northeastern Hungary has also been completed and will soon be available on the website. The details of the project were presented at a press conference on Wednesday by Pál Veres, Mayor of Miskolc, and Tamás Tomor, Business Development Director of Envirosense Hungary Ltd. Pál Veres noted that it could be a major step towards alternative sustainable development in the city.

The city needs significant progress in solar energy, he said. He added that it is important to be clear about where the right equipment can be placed.

Climate change is a huge challenge, and solar energy is an opportunity to keep the planet liveable for future generations,

the mayor stressed. Tomor pointed out that the city is committed to reducing its carbon emissions to around zero by 2050. The director has already said that they are working with unique technology to create such a map.

The images used are created from aerial photos and thermal images, he explained, adding that

the national mapping program will cover 80 cities this year.

Recently, new records of industrial solar plants have been set. The Hungarian sector has achieved remarkable performances thanks to favorable weather conditions and the steady expansion of solar capacity. As a result of increasing solar power generation, Hungary is increasingly and frequently becoming a major net exporter of electricity.

The Hungarian government has long-term plans to increase the country’s energy supply from solar energy, while reducing energy imports and increasing reliance on domestic renewable energy sources. The development of the sector is essential not only to combat climate change and to reinforce the importance of sustainable energy sources, but also to serve the country’s economic interests.
