Bahrain to Upgrade Kuwaiti Power Network

Bahrain has won a BD19.8m ($52.5m) deal with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to upgrade its electricity network.


Works Minister in charge of Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) Fahmi Al Jowder told Trade Arabia that the loan will cover part of the 220kV and 66kV transportation development grid as part of a four-year-project launched in 2007.


Under the contract, the Bahrain will build ten 220kV substations and upgrade six others.


In addition, 1,150km of cables will be provided and 2,966kV substations built for the project.


The EWA also plans to upgrade and expand five 66kV substations and provide a further 700km of 66kV cables.
