Varsity, Mitsubishi set up biofuel research centre

The university wants to become a leading centre of biomass research in Asia. UTP hopes to produce the best biomass utilisation researchers and engineers, and become a key member of a global alliance of top biomass utilisation centres in Asia.

UTP rector Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Kasim said the CBBR would publish high-impact journals and bring technology developments to the industry.

The opening was conducted by Mitsubishi Corporation Malaysia's chief executive officer Junichi Iseda and Zainal.

The CBBR is a collaborative effort by UTP and Mitsubishi, which started in April 2009 when a strategic cooperation was forged between the two sides through a memorandum of understanding.
