French Experts Recommend Launch of National Solar Market

At the symposium "Towards the development of the photovoltaic sector in France" organized by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) France's solar energy professionals proposed what could be a concrete solution that would allow France to launch its solar market, in a similar way to its neighboring countries of Germany or Spain.

In order to allow a progressive and ambitious increase of the French market, the professionals at the symposium recommended the following:

  • Revise France's Pluriannual Investments Plan (PPI)
  • Revise the objectives of the PPI to such a level to allow the development of a national photovoltaic industry: 1,100 megawatts (MW) in 2012 and 7,000 MW in 2020
The group also recommended increasing the level of the country's feed-in tariffs. For building integrated systems they recommended that the current structure and level of €0.57 (US $0.90)/kilowatt-hour (kWh)  be maintained. For non-integrated systems on buildings they recommended introducing a tariff of €0.45 (US $0.71)/kWh  and for ground-based systems the basic tariff would be adjusted to €0.38 (US $0.60)/kWh to allow for development of PV plants of up to 2,000 MW.
