The construction of a photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Montenegrin municipality of Ulcinj will begin by the end of 2020, economy minister Dragica Sekulic said.

In October 2018, Montenegro’s economy ministry said a consortium of Finland’s Fortum and EPCG placed the best bid in a tender for the construction and operation of a PV plant with installed capacity of more than 200 MW in Ulcinj. The consortium offered a 178 million euro ($201 million) investment and the best conditions in terms of number of newly created jobs, technical capacity, financial terms and participation of domestic companies.

“Our estimate is that by the end of the year we can expect the first works on the solar power plant,” Sekulic said in a video file posted on the YouTube channel of Montenegro’s parliament last week.

State-owned power utility company EPCG [MNG:EPCG] is building and repaing access roads to the planned plant, Sekulic said in response to a question in parliament.
