Brazil’s ESBR to hold auction for wind, solar power in July

Brazilian power company Energia Sustentavel do Brasil SA (ESBR) plans to hold an energy auction on July 21, 2020, to contract wind and solar power.

The firm did not disclose the specific amount of energy it seeks but stated in the tender notice, published on Wednesday, that the new capacity will be used to meet demand in the Southeast, Midwest and Northeast markets.

ESBR will award power purchase agreements (PPA) with power supply set to start on January 1, 2023 and end on December 31, 2037 for both sources. To participate in the tender, companies have to meet certain conditions, such as having their projects approved by state-owned energy research firm EPE or the power sector regulator Aneel.

Interested parties have until July 7, 2020 to register with ESBR. All the details can be found in the company’s tender notice.
