SOLON Corporation has received a contract to build 1.15MW of photovoltaic (PV) systems in Arizona, US.
The company has been contracted by Tanque Verde Unified School District (TVUSD) to install the systems at four of its campuses across Tucson.
TVUSD governing board member, Claire Place, said the solar energy project implementation began with community input as part of Tucson Electric Power's renewable energy rebate programme.
"The solar installations will bring cost savings, campus improvements and educational opportunities to our students, staff and community," said Place.
The company will engineer, design, construct, commission and maintain the systems which will be a combination of shade structures and rooftop systems.
Under a 25-year power purchase agreement, SOLON will provide the energy produced by these systems to TVUSD.
SOLON Corporation director of business development, Robert Wanless, said: "Understanding the unique requirements of a school is essential to delivering a complete solution that will work for not only their energy needs, but also will provide the optimal financing solution to maximise cost savings."
SOLON said the systems will be completed and fully operational in 2012 and early 2013.
