First Solar gets visit from Chinese leaders

First Solar Inc. hosted a delegation of Chinese government officials on Monday, part of a two-day stop in the Phoenix are before they moved on to Washington.

First Solar CEO Mike Ahearn and other members of the company’s executive staff met with Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, to discuss the company’s technology.

The meeting could bolster cooperation on solutions for accelerating the pace of renewable energy adoption, Ahearn said in a statement following the meeting.

“If the U.S. and China work together and strongly support solar growth, we believe we can reduce the cost of solar electricity to ‘grid parity’ – where it is competitive with traditional energy sources – and create the blueprint for accelerated mass scale deployment of solar power worldwide to mitigate climate change,” Ahearn said.

First Solar (Nasdaq:FSLR) is based in Tempe.
