BayWa r.e. has signed an offtake agreement with Meyer Burger Technology AG, a leading solar technology company, for procuring high-performing solar panels from its production site, located in Goodyear, Arizona. This collaboration between the two demonstrates a deep commitment to strengthen the needs of the domestic solar manufacturing industry in the US and also assist in the growth, sustainability, and diversification of the supply chain.

As per the terms of the agreement, BayWa r.e. will procure 1.25 GW of modules over a five-year period (from 2025 to 2029) from Meyer Burger’s facility. This will ensure a steady supply of indigenously produced solar panels for BayWa r.e.’s projects exceeding 9 GW across the US that are in the pipeline.

At present, Meyer Burger is in the final stages of constructing the 2 GW production site for these solar modules. The facility will not only aid the growth of the U.S. solar industry but it will also create more than 500 skilled manufacturing jobs. Meyer Burger’s proprietary heterojunction cell technology and patented SmartWire module technology will help it to produce top-of-the-line and high-quality solar components and contribute towards clean energy goals.

Following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in the U.S., this collaboration is expected to accelerate the growth of domestic manufacturing, generate more jobs, and create a sustainable solar industry.

“We are very pleased to partner with BayWa r.e. in the U.S., which offers us the opportunity to rapidly advance the production of technologically leading, toxin-free, high-performance solar modules manufactured to high ethical and social standards,” said Gunter Erfurt, CEO of Meyer Burger. “With our accelerated expansion, we are supporting local and sustainable manufacturing for one of the most important energy sources of the future, solar energy.”

“We are excited to be partnering with Meyer Burger on their state-of-the-art solar panel manufacturing facility in Arizona,” said Matthias Taft, CEO of BayWa r.e. “BayWa r.e. and Meyer Burger have a long history of working together in Europe to advance clean energy innovation and we look forward to continuing that relationship in the U.S. Through this collaboration, we are also supporting the expansion of European manufacturing. The enormous increase in demand for renewable energy offers the chance for a regional diversification of the solar supply chains, and this partnership is a significant step towards a diversified and ambitious PV value chain in the years ahead – something that can ensure the renewables industry grows increasingly resilient.”
