Atlas Renewable Energy signs major solar PPA

Atlas Renewable Energy signed a power purchase agreement with aluminum company Albras to provide renewable energy for 21 years.

Inked in US dollars, it is the largest private sector PPA ever signed for solar energy in Latin America, according to Atlas.

Power will come from the Vista Alegre PV solar plant, scheduled to start operating in 2025.

Located in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state, the 902MWp project, will generate approximately 2TWh/y.

Brazilian power company Copel said its board decided to hire Vox Capital Gest?o de Recursos as manager of an investment fund for its corporate venture capital program.

The 150mn-real (US$30mn) program is part of Copel’s strategy for 2030 to generate innovative proposals in the areas of renewable energy, internal processes, energy-as-a-service, asset and facility management, and smart cities.

Local holding company Alupar said it exercised the 2.7mn-real purchase option for 35,825 common shares held by Perfin Apollo Energia Fundo de Investimento em Participa??es em Infraestrutura, in subsidiary Empresa de Transmiss?o Baiana (ETB)。 With the purchase, Alupar increased its stake in ETB to 65% from 51%.

ETB is a specific purpose company for the concession of transmission lines Juazeiro III – Ourol?ndia II and Bom Jesus da Lapa II – Gentio do Ouro II, in Bahia state.

Brazil’s electricity consumption in the first three months increased 1.3% year-on-year to 68,993MWa, according to local power trading chamber CCEE.

In the same period, 1,445MWa was exported to Argentina and Uruguay.

CCEE said 94% of the country’s total generation came from renewable energy sources. Most was generated by hydroelectric plants (77%), followed by wind (12%), solar (3%), and biomass (2%)。

Brazilian wind energy association Abeeólica said it reelected Fernando Elias as its chairman.

Elias is regulation and commercialization director at wind industry player Casa dos Ventos.

The association’s 2023-25 agenda includes a focus on green hydrogen, low-carbon industrial policy and offshore regulation, said Elias in a press release.
