Ascent Solar Technologies names senior VP of sales

Ascent Solar Technologies Inc. Monday named Rafael Gutierrez as its senior VP of

sales and marketing.

Gutierrez was with Seagate Technology for 18 years in a variety of positions, most

recently as general manager of consumer electronics. Earlier he held several

engineering-development positions with Digital Equipment Corp.

Thornton-based Ascent Solar (NASDAQ: ASTI) makes flexible thin-film photovoltaic

modules. The company opened its new Thornton headquarters in March and has said it

plans to add 200 jobs over the next two years.

"Rafael has a proven track record of developing strong customer relationships and

we feel that he will be an excellent fit for leading the sales and marketing

efforts at Ascent Solar," Ascent Solar President/CEO Farhad Moghadam, who took that

position in August, said in a statement. "As we prepare to begin high-volume

production at the beginning of next year, the customers that Rafael establishes

today will help shape the company for tomorrow and beyond.

Gutierrez holds a master's degree in operations research and applied statistics

from the University of Northern Colorado and a bachelor's degree in mathematics

from Bellevue University.
