The Chinese government is planning to accelerate the development of nuclear power generation in 2010, Beijing News reported on Feb 2, quoting Wu Yin, deputy director with National Energy Administration, as saying.
Wu said that the Chinese government has put developing nuclear power on agenda, and is revising its plans.
According to the current government strategy, non-fossil energy is expected to take 15 percent of China's total energy consumption by 2020.
China also plans to have 40 million kW of nuclear power installed capacity operational and 18 million kW under construction by 2020.
Some analysts believe that the expected 15 percent of non-fossil energy consumption requires at least 70 million kW of installed capacity of nuclear power.
