ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. David Paterson says $10 million in federal stimulus funds are
available to subsidize solar energy projects in New York.
The state Energy Research and Development Authority will award the money through
competitive statewide solicitation. The money is designed to help build a solar
industry in the state by promoting the installation of photovoltaic systems.
In a separate development, the New York Power Authority plans to request bids this
winter to develop 100 megawatts of solar generating capacity. State officials say
that would increase New York's solar generating capacity five-fold.
The generators would be owned and operated by the developers, with NYPA buying
electricity on behalf of customers. Officials say 40 entities have expressed
interest.
