SAN JOSE, Calif. — Casino group, a French grocer, will get 14 megawatts of solar panels by the end of this year from SunPower Corp., the companies announced on Tuesday.
Casino Group will use the panels to install solar power systems ranging from 900 kilowatts to 5 megawatts on rooftops and parking structures at supermarkets in mainland France and the islands of Mayotte and La Reunion.
Jacques Ehrmann, Casino's chief real estate and development officer, called the project "the first step of a major new renewable energy initiative," and said it is part of several projects to be developed over the next several months.
SunPower ( SPWR – news – people ) shares rose 31 cents to $26.38 in midday trading.
