Dong Energy to build further offshore UK wind farms

Danish oil and gas group DONG Energy [DONG.UL] said on Wednesday it would build an additional offshore wind farm, Walney II, in the Irish Sea to be affiliated with the company's Walney I wind farm.

The Danish state-controlled group said in a statement its total investment in the Walney I and II wind farms would amount to 9.7 billion Danish crowns ($1.7 billion) and the total production of the two Walney plants would total 367 megawatts (MW) when completed in 2012.

"The move is a result of the British government's increase in funding towards sustainable energy, which the British Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling announced in his budget presentation today," the company said. ($1=5.764 Danish Crown)
