Joint venture partners SkyPower Corp. and Scotian WindFields Inc. announced that they have been awarded a long term power purchase agreement (PPA) by Nova Scotia Power for power produced by a wind project located in Digby, Nova Scotia.
SkyPower and Scotian WindFields have been awarded a 20-year contract to develop a 30-megawatt (MW) wind park in the Municipality of Digby. The 2700-acre wind park is expected to become operational in 2009. The Digby wind park is the first facility of its kind in Nova Scotia to be developed in part through community funds.
"We are pleased to have this partnership as part of Nova Scotia Power's strategy of cleaner, greener energy for our customers," said Ralph Tedesco, President and CEO of Nova Scotia Power. "With this project, we have reached our goal of signed contracts for adding 240 MW of installed wind capacity. By the end of 2009, our province will have five times the amount of wind energy than exists today."
