[International Energy Network Live Report] On the afternoon of December 11th, the side event titled “From Arid Zones to Zero-Carbon Industrial Parks: Building Sustainable Energy Industry Systems” was held at the China Pavilion of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh,which was hosted by Center for Energy Transition and Social Development School of Social Sciences Tsinghua University, co-hosted by China Arab Green Development Cooperation Center and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute and International Energy Network.
This side event will highlight successful practices of zero-carbon industrial parks globally and explore Chinese enterprises’ contributions to developing sustainable energy industries in the Middle East. By leveraging the vast land resources of arid regions, large-scale wind and solar energy projects are being developed while attracting investments in energy-related manufacturing. This approach aims to establish sustainable energy industry systems, contributing to the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
During the meeting, Cao Yongjie, General Manager of GEnergy Technology Co., Ltd, gave a speech on the theme of “Cocoon SPACE Industrial Park Zero (Low) Carbon Park Construction Practices” from the aspects of methods and steps, how to establish a zero (low) carbon park, and investment benefits.

During the speech, Cao Yongjie introduced the zero-carbon case of the company’s Hangzhou park in detail through a video. In order to actively respond to the call of national and regional local policies, Genergy Technology launched the Xingda Logistics Park Zero Carbon Demonstration Project in November 2023, which was completed and put into use in June 2024. The entire park is built with a steel structure. And full consideration is given to natural lighting and ventilation, effectively reducing the entire park’s dependence on electric lighting and refrigeration. The solar panels on the roof of the park are arranged neatly, following the principle of “comprehensive management, photovoltaic priority”. Through the intelligent control system, green energy is input into every corner of the park from 3 grid connection points.
In the zero-carbon park, lithium battery energy storage is an indispensable and important part. It can not only store excess solar power during the day, but also provide a stable power supply for the park at night or on rainy days. The energy storage system can also carry out peak-valley arbitrage. Store electricity at low electricity prices and release electricity at high electricity prices. Thereby reducing the electricity bill of the park.
According to Cao Yongjie, the IXMS energy carbon management platform developed by Genergy centrally controls the air conditioning of the park. It is like the “housekeeper” of the park, which is linked to the outdoor temperature and dynamically controls time and temperature. The park uses LED lights combined with human intelligent sensors to make every kilowatt-hour of electricity play a greater value.
From the perspective of power generation efficiency, the current power generation efficiency of the park can achieve 800,000 yuan/year; in terms of power saving income, it saves 60,000 yuan per year after energy-saving transformation; in terms of other benefits, the expansion of 3000kVA saves 1 million yuan in costs.
