[International Energy Network Live Report] On December 9, 2024, the side event titled “Solar empowers land and People from scarcity to prosperity:Integrated Solutions for water, food and ecosystems” was held in Conference Room 4 of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh.

Wu Rui,Product Manager of Huansheng Photovoltaic (Jiangsu) CO., LTD

TCL Zhonghuan Huansheng Photovoltaic Product Manager Wu Rui was invited to attend the side event and delivered a keynote speech entitled “Advanced Manufacturing Helps Drive Energy Transition”, sharing their experience and achievements in photovoltaic applications in desert areas.

Tcl Zhonghuan-The World’S Leading Smart Technology Company

Wu Rui introduced that TCL is a world-leading smart technology company, which has 46 R&D centers, 38 advanced manufacturing bases, 130,000 employees, and 20,000+ R&D personnel worldwide. TCL’s business covers 160 countries around the world and has 1.3 billion users.

TCL is a long-established manufacturing company. In 1981, it started in Huizhou City, Guangdong, China, and has since continued to expand in the fields of home appliances and displays. In 2020, TCL Technology acquired Zhonghuan Semiconductor and officially entered the clean energy field.

In 2023, TCL Technology’s revenue was US$42.2 billion, and its subsidiary TCL Zhonghuan ranked first in the world in terms of monocrystalline silicon wafer shipments.

TCL Zhonghuan has led the development of photovoltaic technology for more than 40 years in the field of clean energy.

In 1981, Zhonghuan Group, the predecessor of TCL Zhonghuan, established China’s earliest solar cell company. In 2009, TCL Zhonghuan applied diamond wire silicon wafer cutting technology for the first time in the world. In 2015, TCL Zhonghuan established a joint venture with SunPower to produce high-efficiency shingled photovoltaic modules. In 2016, Zhonghuan produced the world’s thinnest photovoltaic silicon wafers. In 2019, Huansheng Photovoltaic, a subsidiary of TCL Zhonghuan, became the world’s largest shingled module manufacturer. In 2022, Huansheng Photovoltaic entered the top ten global photovoltaic module shipments. In 2023, TCL Zhonghuan ranked first in global photovoltaic silicon wafer shipments.

In 2024, Huansheng Photovoltaic will launch the G12 series of photovoltaic module products suitable for the utility sector, with a module power of up to 725W.

TCL Photovoltaic Manufacturing, Global Industrial Layout

Wu Rui introduced that TCL Zhonghuan has photovoltaic manufacturing bases in Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Guangzhou, Guangdong, Yixing, Jiangsu, and Tianjin in China at present. Overseas, TCL Zhonghuan’s holding subsidiary maxeom has photovoltaic cell module manufacturing bases in Mexico, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

It is particularly noteworthy that in 2024, TCL Zhonghuan signed an agreement with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Vision Industries to build a 20GW silicon wafer project in Saudi Arabia.

The project not only supports the development of the local economy, but also perfectly fits Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification, job creation and environmental goals. The implementation of this project will help achieve the renewable energy goals set in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

In the field of photovoltaic manufacturing, TCL insists that higher efficiency, higher power, and lower electricity costs are the core driving force for the development of the photovoltaic industry. The G12 Kuafu series large-size silicon wafers launched by TCL Zhonghuan are already based on G12 silicon wafer battery modules. G12 large-size photovoltaic silicon wafers and high-efficiency bifacial modules,

At the same time, TCL continues to promote the upgrading of industrial 4.0 manufacturing methods, accelerate the construction of dark factories, and promote the globalization of industrial layout.

G12 Silicon + Topcon! Help Global Sand Control And Wasteland Control

Desertification is a common challenge facing mankind. According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, about 40% of the world’s land has been degraded, affecting 3.2 billion people.

As a leading global photovoltaic manufacturer, TCL Zhonghuan proposed the G12 silicon wafer + TOPCon solution to achieve lower electricity costs in desert scenarios and help global sand control and wasteland control.

Wu Rui expressed that in photovoltaic application scenarios in desertified areas, strong winds can cause photovoltaic modules to separate, break or shift, resulting in reduced power generation efficiency or complete loss. Strong winds can also affect the bracket system that fixes photovoltaic modules, causing photovoltaic modules to collapse or break.

In addition, severe dust pollution and soil loss can reduce efficiency, increase maintenance costs, damage equipment and may shorten the service life of infrastructure, causing large-scale damage to photovoltaic power stations.

Sand particles in the air can also scratch the surface of photovoltaic modules, especially the glass cover. Small scratches not only affect the appearance, but also reduce the long-term photovoltaic conversion efficiency and accelerate aging.

Salt or other corrosive substances in the wind and sand will react with the metal frame of the module to cause corrosion, especially in coastal or desert areas.

In response to complex extreme climates, TCL Zhonghuan has launched photovoltaic module products adapted to the scenes in the desert areas of the Middle East. This product has the characteristics of strong wind and sand resistance and corrosion resistance. The 5400Pa front load is not afraid of strong winds, the anti-ultraviolet packaging material reduces the risk of module attenuation, and the anti-dust design prevents sand and dust accumulation from affecting power generation. It is especially suitable for the harsh natural environment of desertified areas. G12 silicon wafers, TOPCon cells, and modules have high power generation BOS/LCOE friendly characteristics, which injects new impetus into the energy transformation of desertified areas.

At present, TCL Zhonghuan’s photovoltaic products have been widely used in desertification application scenarios in China, the United States, Germany, France, Australia, India, Vietnam and other places, and have accumulated rich experience in desert land management.

Finally, Wu Rui reiterated that TCL Zhonghuan will insist on combining photovoltaics with ecological governance, assist in desertification control, and promote global green and low-carbon development!
