Permitting begins for 700MW Peru solar, wind projects

Three renewable energy projects for a combined 700MW have entered Peru’s environmental permitting pipeline.

One of the proposed plants is Hidroeléctrica Sierra Nevada’s 350MW Las Joyas solar park in Arequipa region.

The other two projects are wind farms Vientos de Sechura (200MW) and Vientos de Salinas (150MW) which belong to Cordillera Solar II and Cordillera Solar III, respectively. Both are planned for Lambayeque region.

Information from the energy and mines ministry shows that the power environmental affairs office (DGAAE) has approved reference terms which will be used to prepare the projects’ environmental impact assessments.

DGAAE also greenlighted reference terms to prepare the environmental impact assessment for Luz del Sur’s 60kV Limatambo-San Isidro transmission line in Lima province.

Meanwhile, the ministry accepted a request from Acciona Energía Perú to desist from the process to seek a definitive concession for the 155.7MW San José solar project in Arequipa.

A reason for Acciona’s decision was not disclosed and the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

ENEL REORGANIZATION

Meanwhile, shareholders of Enel Generación Perú (EGP) approved the merger of EGP and Enel Green Power Perú, Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Marcona and Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Los Pinos.

“Completion of the merger and the effectiveness of the agreements under it are subject to compliance with each and every one of the conditions detailed in section X of the merger plan,” EGP said in a filing sent to local securities regulator SMV.

The merger plan is available here, a valuation report prepared by Banco BBVA Perú at this link and a technical opinion issued by Apoyo Consultoría is available here. (The information is also available in the Documents box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.)

The proposed transaction follows the US$2.9bn sale agreed to between Enel Perú and China Southern Power Grid International.

In other sector news, state power generator Electroperú’s board approved a proposal for short-term bank financing of up to 310mn soles (US$83mn)。
