Tata Power Solar Systems has won Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) auction for a 20 MW solar power project with a 50 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project would be set up in Phyang, located in Leh district of the union territory of Ladakh.
The total cost of the project awarded including taxes and duties would be around ?3.86 billion (~$51.97 million). While the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction cost (EPC) would be around ?3.68 billion (~$49.52 million). The project’s operation and maintenance cost for 10 years is considered as ?181.71 million (~$2.44 million).
SECI had floated the tender for this project in December 2020. The scope of work included design, engineering, procurement, supply, testing, packing, associated civil works, installation, testing, and commissioning of the solar power project and BESS along with interconnected transmission lines and performance demonstration.
SECI has been issuing a series of tenders for solar projects with BESS. SECI floated a global tender for consultancy services for a 100 MW solar project along with a 40 MW/120 MWh BESS in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. In September 2020, SECI invited bids for a 100 MW solar power project and a 50 MW/150 MWh of BESS at Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh but later reduced the BESS capacity to 40 MW/120 MWh from 50 MW/150 MWh.
In February, SECI also issued a tender for setting up 14 MW of solar power projects with 42 MWh battery storage system (7MW/21 MWh each) at Leh and Kargil divisions. SECI had initially issued an NIT for the tender in March 2019.
Also, the district of Leh in Ladakh has been bustling with the activity of clean energy tenders. Recently, NTPC invited online bids from eligible bidders to install a hydrogen fueling station for a pilot project on green hydrogen mobility in Leh. The tender was issued on behalf of its wholly-owned subsidiary NTPC Renewable Energy.
Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), has called e-bids for setting up a 242 kW solar carport and rooftop solar system with a 762 kWh lithium-based battery energy storage system (BESS), including five years of operation and maintenance (O&M) at Leh.
