The Railway Energy Management Company joint venture established by Indian Railways and engineering consultancy Rites Ltd has invited bids for the development of 400 MW of grid-connected solar generation capacity on vacant railway-owned land.
Successful bidders in the procurement exercise, which will open on Saturday, will have 420 days to develop solar plants on Indian Railways-owned land anywhere across the nation.
Bidders will have to supply a Rs4 lakh bank guarantee and will develop the grid-connected projects on a capital expenditure basis for sale to Indian Railways.
The rail operator has tasked the Railway Energy Management Company with procuring 3 GW of solar capacity on its estate during three 1 GW phases which will be installed by 2022-23. The management company will also oversee management of the resulting power supply.
