It is reported that the State Council approved plans for the development of energy-saving and new energy vehicles in order to alleviate pressures on resources and the environment and to upgrade the automotive industry.
The plans will focus on the development of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. It targets production and sales volume of 500,000 units of electric and hybrid vehicles by 2015 and five million units by 2020.
China will attempt to lower average fuel consumption for vehicles produced in 2015 to 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers, while that for autos produced in 2020 are expected to be lowered further to 5.0 liters per 100 kilometers.
In order to meet the targets, China intends to boost technical innovation research and development acquire key technologies, expand the scope of pilot programs increase the reliability and security of battery power and roll out related measures.
